This video was made for Tamasha Theatre Company to support the UK tour of their prodution of Snookered.

For their 2012 Season Darlinghurst Theatre Company wanted a lighter and more colourful feel to contrast with their 2011 season. We designed their 2012 brochure and launched a new website that reflected the new look and feel. We’ll be working with DTC throughout the year on the poster designs for all their shows.

For Season 2011, we worked with Darlinghurst Theatre Company to create a consistent and unified branding approach, that could function across all of the theatre’s marketing materials.

As many of the shows at Darlinghurst Theatre are co-operative, creative assets tend to come from a disparate number of sources, within varying scales of budget. Our goal was to provide designs, layouts and type treatments that could bring together these material under the one ‘umbrella’ of Darlinghurst Theatre Company in a striking manner.

We started with a refresh of the Darlo logo, which was then used to inspire new creative layouts. The aim for these were that they be type-oriented, thus accommodating different imagery, yet maintain a clean, unobtrusive layout for messaging and artwork.

To provide a point of distinction, the lower messaging strap is treated graphically, evoking themes from the text or performance. This provides a unique point of reference for each collection of materials.

The designs have also been applied across online banner creative used to promote the shows.

Graphic Design and Art Direction

We were approached by Darlinghurst Theatre Company to design the print marketing materials for their 2009 and 2010 season. This was the first time DTC had considered working with one designer for all shows and they wanted to create a style that would ensure that their branding remained consistent and of a high standard.

The Space is a theatre and community arts venue on the Isle of Dogs. We worked with them in 2011 to create a strong visual style that could be used consistently across all their  print and online marketing materials. As they do not have a budget that allows them to be able to outsource graphic design work, the design had to be delivered in simple templates that could be easily implemented by someone with a basic knowledge of Photoshop.

The Space usually works in co-production with other companies so whilst it was important for the design to have a distinct and identifiable ‘Space’ style, it was also necessary that the template be flexible enough to work with a range of images of varying quality.

For the Space’s 2011 production of Tartuffe we designed all the marketing materials including a video that was used to promote the show virally. We also designed posters that were used in the set and the live video streaming application that was used during the performance.

For the Space’s production of ‘A Doll’s House’ at the Space and the Arcola, we worked with Bjarte Rettedale’s beautiful image to create the Poster, Flyer and E-Flyer. The title treatment reflected the director’s interpretation of the play and the use of puppets in the production.

In 2009 we began collaborating with the Guerilla Dance Project, documenting their work and producing a video projection that was used in their performance at The Place in London.

The Guerilla Dance Project create works that explore our social interactions with objects within everyday environments. They have performed at the Place, The Battersea Arts Centre, The Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Theatre as part of the Hide & Seek Festival. They are a resident company at the Pervasive Media Studio in Bristol and in 2011 were the recent recipients of the Sonic Art Bursary sponsored by Arts Council England, Sound and Music, and St George’s Bristol with Charles Hazlewood.

For the Space’s production of ‘The Shape of Things’ in 2010 we designed a poster and E-Flyer that embraced the director’s vision of the play. We also created a video that was used in the performance.
